# Chat outside the dashboard

> Ask the Sazabi agent questions from Slack or Microsoft Teams by mentioning it in a channel, and follow the thread back to the dashboard.

You do not have to open the dashboard to ask the Sazabi agent a question. Slack and Microsoft Teams are two of the [surfaces a thread works across](https://docs.sazabi.com/guides/investigate/threads.md#start-anywhere-stay-in-sync): mention the agent in a channel and it investigates and replies right there, with a link back to the full thread in Sazabi. By the end of this guide you will have asked a question from chat and confirmed the reply. Setup takes a few minutes if the integration is already connected.

## Prerequisites

* The **Slack** or **Microsoft Teams** integration must be connected for your organization, under [**Settings > Integrations**](https://app.sazabi.com/settings/integrations). These are organization-level integrations. See [Slack](https://docs.sazabi.com/catalogs/integrations/slack.md) and [Microsoft Teams](https://docs.sazabi.com/catalogs/integrations/microsoft-teams.md) integration pages to connect one.
* The Sazabi bot must be present in the channel you want to use — add it to the channel before mentioning it.

Both connect through a browser OAuth flow you authorize under [**Settings > Integrations**](https://app.sazabi.com/settings/integrations) in the dashboard. Both can also be started from the Sazabi CLI — `sazabi integrations connect slack` or `sazabi integrations connect teams` opens the authorization page and waits for it to complete (see [CLI reference](https://docs.sazabi.com/reference/cli.md)); if the CLI reports that a provider can't be connected from the CLI in your environment, connect it in the dashboard instead. Adding the bot to a channel and mentioning it happen in Slack or Microsoft Teams — there is no CLI equivalent for those chat-side steps. Once connected, `sazabi integrations list` shows the connection (filter with `--provider slack` or `--provider teams`).

## Slack

In a channel where the Sazabi bot is present, mention it with your question:

```text theme={"system"}
@Sazabi why are checkout errors elevated in the last hour?
```

The agent acknowledges the message, investigates, and replies in the thread with what it found. Continue with follow-up messages in the same Slack thread. Sazabi also supports direct messages — message the bot directly to start a private thread.

## Microsoft Teams

Add the Sazabi bot to a standard Microsoft Teams channel and mention it with your question:

```text theme={"system"}
@Sazabi show me recent errors in the orders service
```

The agent replies in the channel with its findings. Microsoft Teams chat works in standard channels; private and shared channels are not supported.

## How chat threads relate to dashboard threads

A conversation you start from Slack or Microsoft Teams is a normal Sazabi thread — the same thread you would see in the dashboard, with the same messages, tool calls, and artifacts. The agent's reply includes a **View in Sazabi** link that opens that thread in the dashboard, where you can see the full evidence trail and continue there if you prefer.

## Verify

Confirm the agent answers from chat and links back to the dashboard.

1. In a channel where the Sazabi bot is present, post: `@Sazabi find the most recent ERROR log in this project and summarize it.`
2. The agent reacts to acknowledge, then replies in the thread with a summary grounded in your logs.
3. The reply includes a **View in Sazabi** link. Open it and confirm it opens the same thread in the dashboard.

If the bot does not respond, confirm the integration is connected under [**Settings > Integrations**](https://app.sazabi.com/settings/integrations) and that the bot has been added to the channel.
